Annual Creditable Coverage Letter Distribution
Oct. 23. 2025
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has sent the annual Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) creditable coverage letters to Medicare-eligible individual members and small group employers before the start of Medicare’s open enrollment period, which begins Oct. 15. Members received either a creditable or non-creditable coverage letter depending on his or her plan. The letters outline if the member has creditable coverage or non-creditable coverage and provides details on how and when to proceed. You can view a copy of these letters at the links below. Each letter includes a notice that BlueCross sent to individuals, and to groups for distribution to their Medicare-eligible employees (and eligible dependents) covered under their plan.
Letters:
- Individual — Creditable and Non-Creditable Coverage
- Small Group — Creditable and Non-Creditable Coverage
Members with creditable coverage can choose to continue their current drug coverage or enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. Those who have non-creditable coverage should consider enrolling in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. However, if a small group is non-creditable, they could add a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) to change the group's status to creditable. Please talk to your marketing representative about this option.
If the member chooses to enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, open enrollment runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 of this year.
